PROJECT GUIZHOU, PROJECT TOILET 2011 UPDATES

Hey y’all,

It’s not easy trying to update our wordpress blogs and facebook page with the super unstable VPNs here in China, coupled with the super unstable internet connection… trust me, my 10mbps subscription feels like my Starhub’s 2mbps back in Singapore! Nevertheless, God always provides me with that little window of opportunity for me to do it and hence this post! Amen!

We have renamed our annual charity trip to the abovementioned subject title due to the obvious facts that we are helping to raise funds to build a sturdy wooden toilet that allows 8 boys and 8 girls to attend to their business at the same time. I have painstakenly wrote a journal entry in my QQ space to inform my China friends and their friends what CGG is doing and what kind of help we need in the form of them collecting wearable apparels and send to the address provided themselves; the postage and clothes being their contribution as part of the entire contribution package. For those who read Chinese, you may like to view that journal here. http://t.cn/SUWSat. You should be able to view a short profile of what we do and how we do it in CGG. There are updated pictures of the school as well as the kids. If you are keen to send clothes and toys too, please see the address below. Adult clothes are welcome too for the 7 teachers and principal as well as the parents of the kids.

FACTS ABOUT OUR TRIP THIS YEAR:

Beneficiary贵州省黔东南州从江县东朗乡加民小学

Distance – About 450km away from Guiyang City. Mix of highway and mountainous roads.

Students – 88 boys, 44 girls. Grades 1-6.

Why This School? – Basically we told ourselves if it’s convenient for us, it’s convenient for others to reach those schools and orphanages in or near the city. Hence through a lot of research and findings, we found this primary school down southeast of Guizhou, very near to Guangxi border.

Funding Purpose – Priority purpose is to build the toilet which will cost RMB$19,000. Secondary will be to replace the tables and chairs so that the kids can concentrate better in class instead of trying to balance on the shaky wooden chairs. Any extras, we’ll try to discuss with the factory on the pricing. All friends and relatives who donates cash to this funding will have their names and contribution amount listed on this blogsite and Facebook. Trust us to make sure the funds reach the hands of those in need.

Travelling Dates – 27th to 30th Dec. After which our members will spend some time to tour Shanghai City (transiting city) Our annual trips are usually from 26th to 31st Dec where it is the best timing for everyone.

Address – 贵州省黔东南州从江县东朗乡加民小学, 邮编557406. 联系电话:13885532131联系人:莫林生(校长)(Sorry no English version… ;P) Please indicate CGG or 爱心团 on the packages so that the principal will know they are from our group and then will keep it till we reach there for phototaking.

I would like to reitereate one more time that all tour expenses from airtickets, hotels, vehicle rental, expenses, etc, are from our members’ own pockets. This is considered as part of their commitment and contribution to making the trip possible.

If you like to join us to help in our fund raising activities or annual trips, please write to us at cggsingapore@gmail.com. Donors please write in to us as well and leave us with your name and contact number for our committee to reach you.

Thank you all once again especially for those who have already contributed in our recent Pineapple Tarts Fund Raiser which sold more than 50 tubs even before we listed the event on the web. All tarts were made by Maxx’s mum and our members! Well done guys! Check out a short write up here : http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150423012318187.377360.189459588186&type=3&l=66a1a0414e

Stay healthy and be happy everyone!

PROJECT GUIZHOU 2011

I’ve been talking about this trip for the longest time… since beginning of the year actually. And now, it’s November already, very excited about the trip ‘cos it’s the first time our Care Givers Group (CGG) has ever been to China for charity work. What initially was suppose to be a recce trip of 2-3 members is now a real trip of 7-10 members. We may have more joining us later on even… Very touched by the enthusiasm!

Found out that there are already about 142 students in the school providing for grades 1-6 elementary school. It’s gonna be a feat but well, we will do our best to handle them. The condition of the school is pretty bad. This time we’re just aiming to help fund the building of a proper wooden toilet for about RMB$18,000. A full cemented flush system one would cost about RMB$80,000 which I doubt our small charity group is able to raise in such a short period. So let’s hope to raise more money and then we can build more stuff around the school. You can check out the school’s condition here… https://caregiversgroup.wordpress.com/2011/05/26/care-givers-group-in-chinaproject-guizhou-2011/.

We have donations already coming in from friends and relatives. Hopefully we can raise a good sum to help out this really poor school and educate more kids from Guizhou. A rough schedule will be like this:

28th Dec:

Morning – Fly from Shanghai to Guiyang. Check in hotel.

Afternoon – Buy items for goodie bags and purchase bus tickets.

29th Dec:

Morning – 3 hours rough bus ride to Rongjiang town. Arrive at noon for lunch.

Afternoon – Another 1.5 hours mini bus transfer to school. Activity starts upon arrival. Evening – Stay over a night in the school.

30th Dec: Morning – Head to Rongjiang town to board bus direct to Guiyang airport to head back to Shanghai.

So join us if you can… we need all the help. 🙂
